Rainbow School Montessori

The school, comprising around 40 pupils aged between 4 and 11, had outgrown its existing premises and was constrained by the size and scale of their traditional Victorian Building. The client was eager to improve facilities with optimum effect but had only a limited budget. ParkerClark provided a new classroom block to the rear of their current building, linked by a succession of play spaces. We also transformed a disused side storage area into a new music and presentation area. The final area of work was to utilize a redundant fire escape link with the next-door building and turn it in to a computer suite.

The concept behind the design was to scale the spaces for the children’s age so the project gave the older children a sense of growing self-awareness and identity, and the younger children a feeling of security and ownership.
