Peckham Fire Station

Since 2010 we have been involved in the restoration and conversion of the oldest surviving purpose-built fire station in England. Built in 1867 and now grade-II listed, Peckham Fire Station is one of the most important historical buildings in the area as well as a unique example of 19th Century gothic-style architecture.

After exploring the building's history through existing maps, photographs and conversations with people in the area, we developed an understanding of the building’s original qualities and proposed a restoration based on its earliest incarnation. Internally, the building had been modified over a number of years – we hope to restore some of the internal characteristics whilst incorporating a new public use, opening the building up to the public as a centre of education and learning.
