Restaurant, London

ParkerClark completed this 90-seat restaurant in Leyton, East London, which utilises a wedge-shaped site by incorporating full height glazing and a perforated, illuminated timber wall that blurs the distinction between the restaurant and public footpath.

The client was looking for a modern and bold new restaurant that would form a new home for the company. The design uses a timber divide that snakes through the dining space to conceal existing concrete columns and provide spaces with differing levels of privacy. Two private dining rooms are created as well as seating areas that relate to the outside in different ways. The wall is constructed using interlocking plywood panels that prevent views but allow reflected light and noise to travel between spaces. At different times of day sunlight illuminates the panels in different places while at night built-in spotlights illuminate the wall, creating a warm glow throughout the restaurant and on to the street.
